Cross-country skiing and other ways to enjoy the snow

You do not need to be a downhill skiing fan to enjoy an active winter holiday in Trafoi. The area offers plenty of alternatives to enjoy the snow outside the pistes, including cross-country skiing, tobogganing, snowshoeing and winter trekking. Whatever takes your fancy, you can live endless adventures knowing that back at the Madatsch you will find a cosy stube parlour and a fine Spa waiting for you!

If you decide to take a snowshoe tour of the area, you can hire the equipment free of charge right here at the hotel and participate in one of our guided snowshoe hikes. These fairy-tale landscapes might also bring back fond childhood memories – in which case why not take one of our sledges (also free to hire) and hit the slopes? The closest toboggan run is just 400 metres away from your cosy hotel room. We also have a special experience in store for you: a night toboggan ridecrowned by a steaming mug of mulled wine on the slope!

Spectacular snowy trails from Christmas till Easter

The cross-country ski trail in Trafoi extends over 6 kilometres at approximately 1,700 metres of altitude – a beautiful route that starting from the village negotiates through an idyllic spruce forest towards the pilgrimage site of the “Three Sacred Fountains”. The trail is suitable for both classic and skating style and open from Christmas to Easter.

If you do not mind a short drive, you can also explore the cross-country ski trails in Prato allo Stelvio/Prad am Stilfserjoch and in Solda/Sulden. The former is a 2.5 km artificial trail (expanded to 6 km based on weather conditions) located in the Venosta/Vinschgau valley basin that is suitable for both beginners and advanced skiers. The latter, suitable for both cross-country styles, winds for 7 km at 1,900 metres of altitude and offers jaw-dropping views to the Ortles, Cevedale and Königsspitze mountains.
